I am delighted to inform you that this year’s Caroline Benn Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Professor Keri Facer, Professor of Education and Social Futures at Bristol University.
She says her ‘overarching research interest is in understanding how to create the conditions for ecologically sustainable and socially just futures and in developing the roles of education and informal learning in these processes. I am particularly interested in developing more democratic, critical and participatory processes for imagining and negotiating routes to sustainable futures.’
Given it is the year of COP26 when vital decisions must be taken to address the climate crisis, the Socialist Educational Association believes schools must play a part in educating pupils coherently about the Climate Crisis and in helping them shape and communicate their ideas for tackling it.
Keri’s lecture is appropriately entitled ‘Organising Hope: Schools in the time of Climate Change’.
The lecture will take place at the Mander Hall in Hamilton House, the NEU headquarters on Tuesday November 23rd at 6.30.p.m. Places to hear the lecture face to face are very limited. Please email me if you would like to attend live. I will be able to let you know in two weeks if you have a seat. We will be streaming it via Zoom too and details are below:-
