SEA Cymru | Re-Opening Schools in Wales “Too Much Too Soon”
The policy announcement on Wednesday June 3rd by Welsh Education Minister Kirsty Williams to re-open schools in Wales to all year groups from June 29th, is a serious mistake.
The Socialist Educational Association (SEA) is the UK Labour Party's sole educational affiliate. The SEA belongs to the Socialist Societies.

Clearly, the UK is not united over how to handle this crisis. Here in Wales the Stay at Home slogan is still operative until at least the end of this month, when a further review will take place. The Tories need to understand that steamrolling people back to work and children back to school could cost them their health and possibly their lives. They are trying to get the economy going (and their profits rising) at the expense of working class children and their parents.
The SEA adopted the following policy statement about the Covid-19 crisis and a motion on supply teachers at an NEC meeting held on Saturday 16 May.
The SEA is concerned that the Conservative Government are prioritising the economy over public health. Instead of planning for and implementing measures to limit the spread of the disease – such as closing schools, universities etc – as other countries have done, the Tories are choosing to put the economy before public safety.
