The 2022 Caroline Benn Memorial Lecture is to be given by Michael Rosen in Portcullis House. Michael Rosen, one of the most famous and best loved children’s author in the UK was a former Children’s Laureate. Michael holds the chair for Professor of Children’s Literature at Goldsmiths College, University of London. A political commentator on education politics he writes and contributes regularly to his own Letter From A Curious Parent column, written as a open letter to the Education Secretary of the day and published in The Guardian..
Michael Rosen’s chosen topic for the lecture is the arts curriculum and will be entitled “What Have The Arts Ever Done For Us?”. The arts in schools have been marginalised and decimated since the introduction of the EBacc and Progress 8 performance measures. It’s certainly time to campaign for change.
The event is now SOLD OUT due to high demand so we expect a packed audience.
Those of you who booked early may know that we have been moved out of the Committee Room we booked originally as House of Commons committee business take precedence. Hence, the lecture will now take place in The Thatcher Room in Portcullis House. The main entrance is on Victoria Embankment where you will need to clear security.
Please make sure you allow 30 minutes to clear security. It is always difficult to judge how long the queue will be.
On behalf of everyone at the SEA we look forward to seeing you there.
