“In making this film, I have captured the struggles of teachers and parents as they fight for a democratic and accountable education system in England. It has taken me over 5 years of my life to follow these amazing people, their stories and their inspiring achievements. It’s time to spark a national debate about education policies and to find the best way forward for our children and communities.”

SYNOPSIS
Three-quarters of England’s secondary and more than 40% of primary schools are now academies. The Great Schools Robbery, a feature-length documentary, charts the transformation of state education in England with the accelerating academisation of publicly funded schools and the passionate resistance by teachers and local parents to what they see as the back-door privatisation of state education. The Government’s recent proposal to force all state-funded schools into multi-academy trusts makes Chester Yang’s film even more topical.
Following the screening there will be a panel discussion including Apsana Begum MP, member of the House of Commons Education Select Committee, and Kevin Courtney, Joint General Secretary of the National Education Union (Event sponsored by the Socialist Education Association).
