SEA AGM 2019

Posted by

This year’s SEA AGM and Annual Conference is on Saturday 22nd June. As last year, it will be at the Wesley Hotel, Euston Street – just beside Euston Station. The AGM will begin at 10.00 and the conference at 11.00.

We are delighted that our President, Professor Selina Todd will be speaking at the conference. We will also be joined by Lyn Brown MP from the Treasury front bench team. Lyn will be looking at the issues around child poverty, challenging us to think about its effects on education and what education can contribute to reducing it. Other speakers will be announced soon.

The other main focus of the conference will be the curriculum and its assessment. The government, in alliance with Ofsted and its favoured academy trusts, is more and more forcing its narrow vision for the curriculum on schools. We urgently need a Labour response.

The welcome announcement of an end to high stakes testing in primary schools means that we also need to develop a Labour approach to assessment and accountability that is genuinely in the best interests of learners in our schools and colleges.

We hope that as many members as possible will come together to address these key issues. If any member has expertise in these areas and would like to make a contribution at the conference, do please get in touch. It is also open to individual members and branches to submit resolutions on any education policy area.

The cost of the conference will be just £10 per head which will cover lunch and refreshments. Payment is made on the day.

Please book your place by email to secretary@socialisteducationalassociation.org. It would be really helpful in organising the accommodation and catering to have bookings as soon as possible.
